Visualization and Ideation Delineation

In this ideation assignment, students employed a word association technique taught in class to generate and propose design detail concepts for a new “Members’ VIP Suite” at the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. The project required elements for a sophisticated interior design inspired by and abstracted from the ocean, featuring custom furnishings, original design details, and viewing windows into a new private Caribbean Coral Reef Exhibit. The process of abstracting inspiration, rather than merely decorating to a theme, was emphasized.

The deliverables of the assignment included:

–          A social media photo-op feature wall

–          Custom chandelier and wall sconce design

–          A sculptural bench for viewing the Caribbean Coral Reef Exhibit

–          A podium design for VIP guest lectures

–          A VIP concierge desk

–          A custom feature of the student’s choosing

All items were required to be hand sketched, inked, and rendered with appropriate annotations.
