Mixed-use Medical Facility

During this senior-level studio course, students designed a mixed-use medical facility. The areas required in the project included an urgent care facility, a retail pharmacy, a café, a healing garden, and a specialty practice medical office of their choice. Topics presented in the course included through lecture, discussion, and project application included:

 

Building codes for healthcare environments

Materials application based on space use

Incorporating brand identity into the design of the interiors

Wayfinding with iconography and visual landmarks

Researching and applying evidence-based space design for healing environments

Application of color and environmental psychology for healthcare environments

Space planning and material use applications to health, safety, and sanitation issues.
